One of the ways in which PCB assemblies can be manufactured,
and is widely used, is “plated through hole”. Even though most popular and
ideal for a variety of applications, it isn't necessarily going to prove
effective for your purpose. To know whether it can prove effective for you or
not, you need to sit with and speak to reliable PCB manufacturers, who can
guide you as to which PCB assembly you must choose, while also providing you
with the finest PCB assembly from India
for your application. One such manufacturer is Miracle Aerospace who has been
in the industry for more than two decades, and has been providing a wide range
of PCB assemblies, made with technologies like surface mount, plated through
hole lines, and others to deliver end-to-end build to print services.
If your PCB manufacturer suggests you plated through hole
PCB assemblies, you should be aware of what they are before opting for one.
Transparency and knowledge are very important when you are buying any product
from a manufacturer to avoid hassles later. This blog will explain to you what
plated through hole PCB assemblies are.
Plated through hole assemblies are not new technologies.
They have been around since the 1950s! Right from the second generation of
computers in the 1950s until the surface mount technology became popular in the
late 1980s, every component on a PCB was a through-hole component. While, plated
through holes are no longer required with surface mount technology boards for
making component connections, they are still used for making interconnections
between the layers.
As the name suggests, plated through hole assemblies are
those with holes drilled through the PCBs, and the leads being inserted through
the holes and soldered onto the opposite sides. After drilling the holes, a
thin copper layer is plated onto the walls of the holes, providing them with
electrical conductivity. Thus, with plated through holes, there is a conductive
path from one side of the board to the other. Due to this, the link between the
leads and copper tracks has a lower resistance and better mechanical stability.
With PCBs being generally double or multi layered, the components can connect
to the required layers in the board due to the plated through hole technology.
Plated through hole mounting provides stronger mechanical
bonds as compared to surface mount technology, but it also makes the final
product more expensive. In addition, the available routing area for signal
traces on layers is limited to immediately below the top layer on multilayer
boards, as the holes are required to pass through all layers to the opposite
side. This is why plated through hole mounting techniques are used for heavy
and bulky components, and those that require great strength in support. This
technology is also preferred when prototyping as they can be easily used with
breadboard sockets.
Hence,
if your application falls into any of the above mentioned categories, you can
have a PCB assembly from India that
is built with the plated through hole technology.
